I am training very hard, last week I did 70,000 yards in 58 degrees. It was a tough week. I did a 6 hour effort that was pretty solid. I got a flu though because of the constant cold water, but I am getting out of it and feeling strong again. The water is going up. It was 59 degree today and it felt much better. 60 degree would be ideal for the crossing. I have to be on call for the swim starting next Monday, and my last training swim is tomorrow after that resting and getting ready mentally for the crossing!!!
My mental plan is to go past the night hours and then focus in one feed at a time, one arm after the other.Channel swimmers are a different breed, they are tough and mentally strong. Its an eye opening to be part of this group of athletes.
I also want tosent a big hug to all my athletes and friends, to the kids at Rockway, remember this "always prepare for the worst and hope for the best" that is the mantra of the Channel swimmers!!!

Last week was a very successful training week for me. I was able to complete a 3-hour swim on Sunday with ease. I went to a lake in Ft. Lauderdale where a fellow triathlete, Mike, lives. He was so generous and hospitable, but what else would you expect from a member of The Runner's Depot group.
I was able to do 12 loops around the buoys in three hours. However, I was informed that I did not break the course record for the lake which is 13:20 for a loop. I clocked in a 13:28 in my ninth loop and 13:27 in my final loop (maybe because I was really ready to get out?!!)
After that, I went with my friend, Manny Huerta, once again to his friend, Shane's house. I had a huge steak which should more than fulfill my protein requirements for the day. I also watched a stupid funny movie called "Stepbrothers". It was hilarious and a no brainer, highly recommended after a strenuous week.
On Monday, I swam for 2 hours in the ocean down the street. However, in the last half-hour the sun went down and it made it a bit uncomfortable. Maybe because I was catching a little flu that showed it's full colors today. I took some olive leaf extract from Health Force Nutritionals (megadose, 3, 3x's per day) to combat it and was able to swim one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon. It is an essential during the flu season and I keep it handy all year long.
I'll catch up with all of you later this week. Have a good one!
